NEW DELHI: In the seven Tests Jasprit Bumrah has played so far this year, the pace spearhead has picked up a stunning 38 wickets at an unbelievable average of 14.42.
With 11 wickets in the recently concluded India vs Bangladesh two-Test series, Bumrah was the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside premier spinner R Ashwin.
Showcasing exceptional skills with new and old ball, Bumrah bettered his home Test record and now has 44 scalps in just 10 games.
Hailing the India speedster, former keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik said that Bumrah is the problem solver for the team, be it any situation and is the biggest asset for skipper Rohit Sharma.
“He is the gift that keeps giving for Indian cricket. You can see how much the players value him as well. Rohit Sharma, I think he has kept it very simple. When in doubt, call Jasprit Bumrah. If he has any problems in life, I hope Rohit Sharma doesn’t end up calling Jasprit Bumrah to be the problem solver for that as well. But literally, that’s how he has used Jasprit Bumrah. Under pressure — Jasprit Bumrah,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.
“Twice in two days, he has bowled absolute jaffas to Mehidy Hasan. It was so good to see Bumrah reverse swing the ball. Just the sight he is able to produce for the fans. Brilliant. Outstanding cricketer,” he added.
Bumrah, on Wednesday roared back at the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings following his match haul of six wickets in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
The 30-year-old replaced team-mate Ashwin – Player of the Series against Bangladesh – at the top of the chart.
Spinner Ravindra Jadeja also maintained his sixth place, while fellow spinner Kuldeep Yadav stayed in 16th.
