A tragic incident unfolded during a friendly football match in Jamaica on Monday night.
Law enforcement officials reported that five individuals lost their lives during the match in the Pleasant Heights area, and multiple others sustained injuries when gunfire erupted at the event.
In response to the shooting, police have imposed a curfew lasting 48 hours in the affected area.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the precise number of those wounded or the circumstances that precipitated the shooting.
Newspaper reports state that the Pleasant Height area has a history of gang-related violence.
The tragic incident was confirmed by the Constabulary Communication Unit, the information arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
“Seven persons were shot and five people were killed,” Superintendent Tommielee Chambers of the Kingston Eastern division was quoted as saying by Jamaican Observer Online.
