Avani defended her Tokyo gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final with a personal best score of 249.7 points.
The remarkable achievement secured India’s first double podium finish in the same event, with Mona Agarwal clinching the bronze in the same event.
“Avani many congratulations to you. You are constantly performing well and keep working hard,” said PM Modi.
Avani thanked PM Modi for his wishes and said that his words of motivation helped her negate the pressure.
“This is my second Paralympics. I was a bit nervous. But you said that don’t play under the pressure of expectations and I followed it accordingly,” Avani said to PM Modi during the phone call.
On Sunday, PM Modi also spoke with other medalists from the Paris Paralympics, including bronze medalists Mona, Preeti Pal, Rubina Francis, and silver medallist Manish Narwal. Avani could not join that call.
Manish Narwal won the silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 category, scoring 234.9 points. Despite falling to sixth place in the middle of the match, Manish made a comeback to finish with a silver medal.
Rubina Francis earned a bronze medal in the P2 – Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH-1 final.
Preeti won bronze medals in both the 100m T35 event and the 200m T-35 race at the Paris Paralympics. She clocked 14.21 seconds in the 100m T35 event to claim third place, while an impressive performance in the 200m race secured her another bronze.
In the men’s high jump T47 event, Nishad Kumar claimed the silver medal with a jump of 2.04m.
Yogesh Kathuniya contributed to India’s medal tally by winning a silver medal in the men’s Discus Throw F56 final.
Shuttler Nitesh Kumar provided India with its second gold medal by outplaying Great Britain’s second-seeded Daniel Bethell in the men’s singles SL3 category.
