NEW DELHI Former South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel, recently appointed as India’s bowling coach, is set to work with the existing system rather than changing it drastically. The former South African fast bowler, with 544 international wickets, has joined the Indian cricket team before their series against Bangladesh.
Morkel expressed his admiration for India’s cricket structure, highlighting its efficiency and professionalism.Speaking to BCCI.TV, he said his objective is to “protect and improve” the current setup with minor changes.
“We are quite lucky to have quality senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah. They will lead the charge, and my responsibility is to support them,” Morkel said.He emphasized the importance of building trust and relationships within the team. Morkel aims to help players manage the pressures of representing India by making them feel welcome and sharing his knowledge.
Reflecting on his appointment, Morkel shared, “The blue shirt carries a lot of expectations. My role is to make players feel welcome in this environment, help them settle in, and pass on my knowledge.”
