NEW DELHI: Football star Kylian Mbappe‘s X account was hacked in the early morning hours on Thursday while he was in Spain, leading to a slew of provocative posts.
The hacked account promoted a cryptocurrency ‘$MBAPPE,’ which claimed to have reached 90,000 sales, and issued controversial messages about Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The posts were quickly noticed by the users and sparked widespread controversy within the football community.
One of the tweets said, “Manchester is Red,” and another praised a United fan account, @UTDTrey, as “the best account on ft (football Twitter).”
When a user inquired whether Mbappe preferred a move to London, the hacked account responded with, “London is s*** bro.”
One tweet favored Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi, calling Ronaldo “the greatest football player of all time” and included a derogatory term to insult Messi, who is an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.
The tweets have since been deleted, but they added fuel to the ongoing debates around the Ronaldo-Messi rivalry, particularly as Mbappe is now a part of Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old earlier made his much-anticipated La Liga debut for Real Madrid but it ended in frustration as the reigning champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca on the opening day of the new season.
The French superstar, who completed a blockbuster move from Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, showcased glimpses of his brilliance but was unable to secure a victory in his first league match in Spain.
